About

ibre!/.hyd (Howard Kim) is a multidisciplinary artist and creative technician based in the Bay Area, CA. Raised across New Zealand, South Korea, and the United States, early exposure to diverse cultures left a definite mark on his practice - and on the restless, boundary-crossing nature of his work. Since 2015, alongside his studies in aerospace engineering, ibre! began seriously pursuing music as a vocalist and producer. Today his work spans music production, audio engineering, live performance, visual art, interactive installation, poetry, and beyond - without restriction to genre or form.

His influences stretch wide, from Miles Davis, Kevin Shields, Chet Baker, Philip Glass, Erykah Badu, Norah Jones, and D'Angelo - to Nam June Paik, Brian Eno, Jackson Pollock, Tadao Ando and more. His background in aerospace control systems engineering runs quietly beneath all of it: not as contrast, but as collaborator. The aim is to bring the different domains of art and engineering together into pieces and experiences that capture something true about modern life - both personal and universal.

Armed with a distinctive audiovisual aesthetic, multi-instrument capability, deep technical fluency in complex multimedia systems, and hands-on production experience spanning installation rigging, lighting design, and cable routing, ibre!/.hyd continues to push at the edges of art.
